Is this funny?

These two monks are in a Medieval monastery. One of them has asked a helpdesk because he cannot understand how the book works. This technological advance is far beyond his limits!

How is this situation similar to yours?

Do you feel like the monk? Has your attitude towards technologies changed? Is it changing? Will it ever change ?

  1. I think we have another (worse) problem than that of the monk that needed the helpdesk assistance. Just imagine that he was supposed to be teaching a group of students how to read from a book.
Not only do I feel a bit stupid and pigheaded in front of my computer, but now I also have to play the role of an instructor that uses this new technology wisely… mamma mía!

  2. Let's work all together so as to become more and more able! It's not that hard, it needs some passion, just like being a good teacher!

  3. “We choose to go...not because [it is] easy, but because [it is] hard, because that goal will serve to measure and organize the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win.”

  4. I have felt like the monk many times, when I want to achieve a goal with my computer. I DO feel a stupid, and when I ask my daughter for some help, she refuses to give me a hand because she did it before and she thinks I didn't pay attention to her. So, as a punishment, she doesn't explain anything to me any more. And I have to handle the new tool and the new situation on my own. I have to admit that my daughter's teaching strategy is good, because I'm improving by "trial and error". And most of the times I can achieve my goal! For example, to insert a photograph. I didn't know how to do it, (my daughter had taught it to me several times, sshhh), but I had to manage and do it on my own and I was successful! We know how to adapt to new situations, and we, teachers will be successful in this process of constant and everlasting changes. Patricia.
