More on CLIL

Ana Maria wants to share this:

How does CLIL work?
The basis of CLIL is that content subjects are taught and learnt in a language which is not the mother tongue of the learners.

Knowledge of the language becomes the means of learning content

Language is integrated into the broad curriculum

Learning is improved through increased motivation and the study of natural language seen in context. When learners are interested in a topic they are motivated to acquire language to communicate

CLIL is based on language acquisition rather than enforced learning

Language is seen in real-life situations in which students can acquire the language. This is natural language development which builds on other forms of learning

CLIL is long-term learning. Students become academically proficient in English after 5-7 years in a good bilingual programme

Fluency is more important than accuracy and errors are a natural part of language learning. Learners develop fluency in English by using English to communicate for a variety of purposes

Reading is the essential skill.

Remeber that as Marsh, Frigols and Mehisto (2008) say: "thera are many faces of CLIL" and we cannot expect an English teacher AND a specilaist in class, can we?

go on reading and sharing

Technology VS teachers?

TECHNOLOGY DOES NOT MAKE THE CLASSROOM   SUCCESSFUL
-THE TEACHER DOES!*

So far you have had some time to reflect upon this quote. What do you think? Do you consider your students different from you, in terms of learning abilities? Have you ever realized that they are "digital natives" (Prensky, 2001)?
Teaching AND learning: are they the same for you?

Let's share our thoughts. POST YOUR COMMENTS TO THIS BLOG!

Sir Ken Robinson: Changing Education Paradigms.

How is this scenario similar to ours?
Feel free to share your comments with your mates.

What do you think? Has my student been creative?

Ezequiel: Profe, no tengo la fotocopia.
ME: Ay Ezequiel. It's your problem, you know. You never have the material! :-(
Ezequiel: ¿Me prestás la tuya?
ME: I'm using my book and...

10 seconds later (literally) he had taken a PHOTOGRAPH of the page and he had it in his netbook, ready to work.

Epilogue:
Ezequiel: Gracias, profe!
ME: :-0

Moral: ???????

Has he been creative? what do you think?

Sir Ken Robinson: Schools kill Creativity- TED CONFERENCE

TED -Ideas worth spreading is an incredible place where you can find ONLY GRET IDEAS , ONLY GREAT ENTREPENEURS, ONLY GREAT POETS, ONLY GREAT SCIENTISTS, ONLY GREAT ARTISTS, ONLY GREAT IDEAS WORTH SPREADING...
TEDx is pretty similar but the lectures take place outside the US. Here you can visit TEDx Buenos Aires

TIP: it's great for our students because the lecture can be watched in different languages. Simply click on the OTHER LANGUAGES key and you'll find the lecture and the subtitles in the language chosen.

Do you agree with Sir Ken Robinson? Is school killing creativity? If so, what can teachers do to avoid it?

MIND MAP

You are supposed to create a mind map with the theory discussed in class >>> CLIL, project work,  tasks, etc. (see handout).

For those who DO NOT have the netbook yet, click here to download CMap Tools

TIPS:
  • When you draw a mind map, it is better to write down all the key concepts first, and then join them with arrows.
  • Remember the arrows establish the hierarchy between and among concepts, therefore they have "names":, i.e. verbs, linkers, etc.
  • Every single concept should be included in your mind map, namely NOUN PHRASES..
  • You can also enhance coherence in your mind map by playing with colours and fonts.
  • You have to include different issues in your mind map. Which is the most important concept? ( i.e. the "umbrella concept"?)
  • Do you still need help? Google TUTORIALS for CMap Tools and you'll find tons!
  • LAST: Do you feel like sharing your mind map with another colleague and work collaboratively? GO AHEAD!

How can we change something that we do not know? Or that I'm not aware of?

How do our students learn?

Our students are different. But how can we change if  we haven't realized they learn in another way? Being DIGITAL NATIVES (Prensky, 2001)* does make the difference, doesn't it?
Have you ever thought about these issues? FEEL FREE TO POST COMMENTS!

* Are you interested in these articles? Simply google them! It's very easy.

Is this funny?

These two monks are in a Medieval monastery. One of them has asked a helpdesk because he cannot understand how the book works. This technological advance is far beyond his limits!

How is this situation similar to yours?

Do you feel like the monk? Has your attitude towards technologies changed? Is it changing? Will it ever change ?

POST A COMMENT TO SHARE WITH YOUR MATES.
